Q. I have deep knowledge and vast experience in working as financial risk manager in a big investment corporation. I want establish a company which will make financial risk management soft wares for small investment companies and banks who can't afford to develop in-house software. I have prepared the design and content of software program but I don't know anything about computer programming, so I can't develop this software myself. I would request the learned members of this site to please guide me in all aspects of formation of a software company for financial risk management software.

A. Hi, I strongly suggest you to be careful from whom you accept advice. There are many people here who will happily tell you what to do; however, you are talking about an industry with substantial regulations and developping a software company is substantially more complex than just writing some code. The other suggestion of contacting SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives) is very useful if you are on a tight budget. If you have obtained atleast the first round of funding, you would be far better off hiring someone with experience as an architect or technical product management experience. Also, Paul Graham has some terrific articles on starting a software company, so you may want to look at his site. Just in case you… [cont.]

What will be more of a financial risk to Arizona ?
Q. A few boycotts or keeping all the illegals ?
Asked by Dum Dum - Wed May 19 16:07:02 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The illegals are too expensive for any state to keep. Not only do they use billions in social services, they send billions out of the country. No wonder the Mexican government is so pushy about dictating to the U.S. government what our policies should be regarding illegal immigrants. It's very much a winning situation for them and a losing situation for us. And all the while Mexico's immigration policies are much tougher than America's. As for Arizona many of us will make a point of doing more business with Arizona companies and supporting Arizona politically. It's ridiculous that Arizona had to introduce a bill that provides that the federal government actually upholds it's own laws. More states should do it!

should I risk financial stability and do what I want to do in my professional life?
Q. I have been working in a bankfor almost 2 years although my major was psychology (MA). I hate my job but it gives me money. As a psychologist I would earn half less.
Asked by annaikes - Tue Mar 28 12:43:16 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The question is can you live comfortably earning half of what you're currently making? If so then the choice is easy. If not then your love for psychology would determine whether or not it's worth it.

Is higher education a good financial risk?
Q. i have spent thousands but yet am in the same financial situation...
Asked by Marvy Girl - Mon Jun 28 07:35:02 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In the long run, higher education is almost always a good investment. It may take a while to pay off, but usually it will. Of course, you still have to show initiative and effort along with your qualifications. Today, education is becoming very much a life-long thing, with upgrading and added qualifications required in many professions and occupations. A higher education also enriches your overall lifestyle in many ways other than financial.

Financial risk analyst as a career option?
Q. I am an undergraduate studying theoretical physics with mathematics, and I'm thinking about different career options. One that caught my eye was this one; and I've heard that degrees in things like finance, or maths are most desirable. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what my chances of getting into this area with my degree were like? Would I not have enough 'commercial awareness'? Anyone's opinion on this is welcome, but obviously I'm mainly asking people who work in a similar job, or who just know a lot about it. Thanks

If you choose this business as a sole proprietorship, it is very very risky. You will be totally financially responsible if the business were to fail. Unfortunately, most new businesses fail within the first three years. What about a partner? If you could make it a partnership, then you would have someone to help you, if things didn't work out as planned. I would do some feasability studies first. Distribute surveys, and find out if people are willing to pay for healthier food. Establish if this will be a product that is in demand. Try and find out the viability of your idea.
