An accountant is a practitioner of accountancy (called accounting in the United States), which is the measurement, disclosure or provision of assurance about financial information that helps managers, investors, tax authorities and other decision makers make resource allocation decisions. The word "accountant" is derived from the French word Compter which took its origin from the Latin word Computare. The word was written in Middle English as Accomptant, but in process of time the word, which was always pronounced by dropping the "p", became gradually changed both in pronunciation and in orthography to its present form. Although you work with numbers in accounting, is not really like math. Rather, it's about business. Yes, CAs make very good money but getting there is tough! The degree is not too hard but the exams for the certification are BRUTAL!! I know a few persons who had nervous breakdowns passing the exams. You often don't get it on the first try and you are only allowed 3 chances. It's far from easy. Next, it can be a lonely job. You tend to work solo most of the time or at best with just a few other accountants. Some persons quit the occupation because it's boring from the lack of personal interaction. A big misconception is that it's math when it's reallyabout business.
