Finance, accounting and ownership
- Equity (finance), the value of an ownership interest in property, including shareholders' equity in a business
- Stock The stock or capital stock of a business entity represents the original capital paid into or invested in the business by its founders. It serves as a security for the creditors of a business since it cannot be withdrawn to the detriment of the creditors. Stock is distinct from the property and the assets of a business which may fluctuate in, the generic term for common equity securities are called stock;
- Home equity Home equity is the market value of a homeowner's unencumbered interest in their real property—that is, the difference between the home's fair market value and the outstanding balance of all liens on the property. The property's equity increases as the debtor makes payments against the mortgage balance, and/or as the property value appreciates, the difference between the fair market value and unpaid mortgage balance on a home
- Private equity Private equity, in finance, is an asset class consisting of equity securities in operating companies that are not publicly traded on a stock exchange. Investments in private equity most often involve either an investment of capital into an operating company or the acquisition of an operating company. Capital for private equity is raised primarily, stock in a privately held company
- Equity in income of affiliates This refers to equity generated from strategic investments in consolidated or unconsolidated affiliate companies, i.e. investments in which the investing company has significant influence over the operating and financial policies of the investee (the legal entity into which an investor has made an equity investment). These investments are entered, an accounting term referring to the consolidated or unconsolidated ownership in affiliate companies

Equity theory is considered as one of the justice theories. It was first developed in 1963 by John Stacey Adams, a workplace and behavioral psychologist, who asserted that employees seek to, on the relations and perceptions of fairness in distributions of resources within social and professional situations.
