Who manages the finances in a typical Filipino household?
Q. I did a little survey of Asian countries and to my surprise, I found that in most countries the wife manages the finances. I just wonder that if the ones who answered were mixed marriages. Since it probably is better if a Asian wife make purchases and pay bills because a foreigner may get ripped off. I shall consider this. What do you think? Do you agree that this might be the reason?

How should I handle finances in college?
Q. I'll be starting my first year of college soon and am wondering what's the best way to handle finances. I have a savings account. Should I open a checking account? This would allow me to get a debit card, right? I already have a credit card that is linked to my parents' account, but it's for emergencies only. If I use if for anything else, I must pay them back within 30 days. Should I get my own credit card or debit card? How did you manage your money in college?

A. transfer everything into a checking account where they do not charge any fees if you have a certain amount in there. then close the savings account. this will make it sooo much more easier for you to make online payments. don't use the credit card! BTW textbooks are so expensive. i spent alot of money on mine so far :/ so just a heads up chegg.com is really cheap for textbook rentals and if you use promo code "CC130874" you save more if you decide to use it! i strongly suggest that website.. i used it and saved alot

How can it be that social security and medicare finances are running out?!?
Q. If it is true that so many illegal mexican or hispanic people are working with social security numbers, then how can the finances for social security and medicare be running low? I know for a fact that illegal workers cannot receive social security or medicare benefits. A. A BUDGET is the #1 thing you need. I created a spreadsheet and input our next 3 months of paydays. Then I divide all bills over the month's pay checks (2 per month). The best way to save money is to push a little more onto one paycheck so you only have "just enough" to get to the next payday. Then you leave a bigger cushion on your other paycheck and deposit the excess. Its easier to save $500 once a month on payday then $250 twice a month-- because the less "extra' You have the easier it is to 'disapear." You should have roughly the same amount of bills every month so its easy to see what the next 3 months will look like for you. I started this budget plan a year ago and we've paid off massive amounts of bills and now have over $2K in… [cont.]

What kind of jobs deal with personal finances?
Q. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Economics, with a major in Banks and Finances. I currently work for a credit union but I am really interested in personal finances, credit issues, stuff like that. What are some jobs related to these things? I'm not that interested in banking, I don't want to just give loans, I want to be able to teach people how to handle their money, how to plan for their retirement etc. More like a financial advisor maybe? How do I get there?

A. Today most financial advisors are loan officers, branch managers or investment counselors. Unfortunately, the industry has gotten so sales driven, that those are really your options. There is not a way to only advise and not sell, it s not really profitable for a firm. You could do not-for-profit work, and city/government work, but there is little room for advancement and you will typically end up being tasked with other things. If you think about it though, the best people to give advice are those working in the field and understand how things work. Once you have established enough retail experience you could (in commercial banking or investment firms) move to a wealth management where you are doing financial counseling and advising… [cont.]

A. Why would you suddenly start splitting your finances? We have always pooled everything, paid all the bills, each buy what we need or want (if it's a large purchase, we discuss it)...I really don't get why couples would keep their finances separate. My husband has always been very generous though and is not petty when it comes to money. I'm actually more of a saver than he is.

is it legal to do a financial investigation on a job applicant when job does not involve finances?
Q. I was informed I had a job and given a report date. I drove from Florida to Chicago, IL arrived as scheduled. The job does not involve any finances or handling money yet now I have been asked to sign a paper authorizing a financial and credit investigation. Is this legal?? If not who do I file a complaint with.
Asked by Mad Doc - Thu Nov 5 09:34:42 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. This is perfectly legal and is more and more common these days. The business is using your credit as a way to determine how well you handle your own finances. If you are not responsible to handle your own finances then why should the company think you would be responsible enough to work for them? Now, is this a good way of thinking for the company? Well, I have read that credit is not a good indicator of responsibility these days. People can have problems but some businesses believe that there is a magic number out there that they can use to figure if an employee is worthy or not.

Should I combine my finances with my new husband?
Q. I have no children, and only college loan debt. He is paying for three children. Two of the children from his second marriage. He is paying about $2500 dollars a month in child support. He also has debt from his previous marriage. He has his own business and I help him a lot with the paper work and day to day dealings. He wants us to be on each other's bank accounts. I am a little skeptical if combining our finances is the right thing to do. Any advice?
