Political economy originally was the term for studying production, buying and selling, and their relations with law, custom, and government. Political economy originated in moral philosophy. It developed in the 18th century as the study of the economies of states—polities, hence political economy. In late nineteenth century, the term "political economy" was generally replaced by the term economics, used by those seeking to place the study of economy upon mathematical and axiomatic bases, rather than the structural relationships of production and consumption (cf. marginalism, Alfred Marshall). Q. out of curiousity... what's the difference between political science? economics? and political economics? Asked by maxxy022 - Thu Jul 26 15:39:30 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Political science studies political systems, behaviors, and beliefs and attempts to theorize about them, describe them, and predict them using an array of methodologies. Economics studies the production and consumption of goods and services. Political economics is a combination of the two - an interdisciplinary approach that looks at economics, international organization, political science, law, etc. to examine how organizations, both governmental and nongovernmental, at multiple levels influence each other.
